Hampton & Richmond Borough manager Alan Dowson is hoping striker Charlie Moone can deliver some festive cheer to the Beavers boss.

Moone struck a hat-trick as Hampton, who host Billericay Town this weekend, beat Dowson’s Kingstonian 4-1 at the Beveree last Boxing Day.

And his new boss is hoping he finds his form when the Beavers visit Kingsmeadow on December 26.

“I said to him the other day that I was having a lovely Christmas last year until he turned up and wrecked it,” he said.

“Hopefully he’ll make my Christmas this time.”

Hampton, who handed debuts to defenders Jake Gilbert and Matt Drage, crashed 3-2 at Witham Town on Saturday, despite taking an early lead through Tom Collins.

Town levelled from the penalty spot after midfielder Saheed Sankoh’s instinctive hand ball on the line saw him red carded.

The hosts struck twice more after the break before Moone, who was celebrating his 200th appearance for the club, fired home with two minutes remaining.

Meanwhile, Beavers chairman Steve McPherson will play Santa in an attempt to boost the club’s travelling army crowd on Boxing Day.

McPherson will personally buy a pre-match pint for any fan who travels to Kingsmeadow as a way of enticing them to get behind the Beavers and their new manager over Christmas.

Any fan that produces a ticket stub from this weekend’s Ryman Premier match with Billericay will get a beer or a soft drink on the chairman.

McPherson said: “I’ve always had a hope that the game with Ks on December we see an army of Hampton fans travelling and getting right behind Dowse and the boys.

“Alan is going back to his old club and I really think an emotional day for him will be made a lot easier with fantastic backing.”
