AFC Wimbledon boss Neal Ardley says goal-shy Matt Tubbs will soon be back on board the bus to the back of the net.

Tubbs, a summer loan capture from Bournemouth, bagged seven goals in the first eight League Two games of the season - however, in the past eight games, he has just one.

Although the goals have dried up – Dons needed a first goal in seven years from Barry Fuller to beat Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday – Ardley is not worried, and experience tells him the goals will return.

“All strikers go through a spell when the goals don’t come, look at Alan Shearer or Wayne Rooney, they’ve gone seven games or so without a goal, and then they hit seven in eight,” he said.

“Matt started the season where everything he touched ended up in the back of the net, so maybe his confidence has taken a hit recently.

“He had two or three chances against Dagenham that maybe he snatched at a bit, but he’s doing fine and it is up to me to keep his confidence levels up.”

He added: “Goals are like London buses, and I am sure they will return if he carries on as he is.”

Dons face York City tonight in the FA Cup first round replay following a 1-1 draw two weekends’ ago.

Ardley’s only injury worry surrounds Andy Frampton, who will not feature, but apart from that it is a clean bill of health.

Meanwhile, midfielder Frankie Sutherland is eligible to play despite being on loan from QPR.
