AFC Wimbledon go to Northampton Town this weekend looking for a first win in three League Two games.

However, their hosts are looking for a first point in four league outings, leading boss Neal Ardley pondering if it is a good or bad time to be playing the Cobblers.

Dons, who can boast a full strength squad, head to Sixfields stadium on the back of two consecutive home draws, while the Cobblers’ last point came from a 1-1 draw at Wycombe Wanderers on October 4.

Ardley said: “Northampton are going through a sticky spell right now, I think I heard Chris Wilder [boss] say he is missing eight or nine players.

“Is this a good time to play them, when they are under pressure? Maybe not, because they will come out fighting.

“We’ve drawn our last two, which is not ideal, but there are no easy fixtures in this league, they are all tough.”

Last time round in March, Sammy Moore and George Francomb got the goals in a 2-2 draw.

This time round, Dons are at full strength, and Adebayo Akinfenwa faces his old buddies having spent two seasons at the club.

Ardley was at the Dons U21 match at Cambridge United on Tuesday, running the rule over “project” Adebayo Azeez, as well as George Oakley, while Kevin Sainte Luce was also due a run out.

Ardley said: “Adebayo is my little project and I want to see him and George Oakley up front.

“It’s all part of us trying to bring players through the ranks, to tap into that good feeling of having Ben Harrison and Tom Beere in the first team squad.

“Alan [Reeves, U21s coach] can maybe concentrate on the team while I watch the front two and feedback to him.”

Azeez went on to score both goals in a 3-2 defeat.
