Brentford turned in an impressive home performance with a 3-1 win over Reading at Griffin Park on Saturday.

Two first half goals gave the Bees a comfortable lead and despite the visitors pulling one back just after the break, Jonathan Douglas sealed the win with nine minutes remaining.

In the opening minutes Alex Pritchard created space just outside box, only for his shot to cannon off the left hand post.

Reading replied with Nick Blackman seeing his shot from the right side of the box blocked by David Button.

Shortly after Ryan Edwards fired in a wayward shot which was wide of the left hand post.

Jota put the home side ahead with a lovely goal when the ball sat up for him and he fired past Adam Federici.

Button was called into action again when he held Edwards’ low shot.

Just after half an hour the Bees doubled their lead when Andre Gray slipped as he was about to shoot and the ball fell perfectly for Pritchard, who fired a low shot past Federici.

Aaron Kuhl ambitious attempt for Reading was then wide of the left hand post.

Reading made two changes at the break and within four minutes of the re-start they combined to pull one back when Simon Cox raced onto Jamie Mackie’s intelligent low pass into the box and fired past Button.

A spell of Brentford pressure resulted in James Tarkowski’s effort being cleared first off the line and then clutched by Federici.

Despite Reading enjoying more possession and pressure during the second half, a resolute performance saw Brentford’s defence hold firm.

Pritchard and Moses Odubajo combined down the right, with the winger shooting across goal.

Douglas then sealed the win when he rose to head home Pritchard’s corner at the back post.
