‘Bus gate puts lives at risk’
Conservatives claim a bus gate on the A3 presents a danger to pedestrians and traffic along Tolworth Rise North, writes Yvonne Gordon.
The gate, which allows buses off the A3 and onto Tolworth Rise North, was installed on February 25 as part of a six-month experiment.
Councillor for Surbiton ward Paul Johnston it was a danger to school children. He said: "This dangerous experiment is creating a grave risk of a serious accident. Transport for London (TfL) has not taken the considerations of the residents, councillors or our GLA member, Tony Arbour, into account.
"Residents are worried about the way the cycle lane is cut off when buses come flying down the road and poor cyclists have to dismount or mount the footpath for safety.
"I also saw people on bikes using the pavement instead of the cycle lane. As there is a bus stop just a few hundred yards down the road, there seems little logic in having this bus gate, which presents a danger to everyone using it."
TfL was unable to comment, but your views can be submitted to it via the Conservatives.
