Kingston runners dominated this year’s Kingston Run Challenge, yesterday morning.

Over 1,700 people lined up for the 8.20am start, as the early morning mist rose to provide perfect running conditions.

The race began at Kingston Market Square, with the course continuing along the river past Hampton Court Palace, extending down Hampton Court Way and returning to Kingston along Portsmouth Road.

It consisted of a number of different elements, allowing athletes to compete over eight and 16 miles, as well as the full 24 mile distance.

Danny Norman and Chris Walmsley, from Kingston-based running club Stragglers, finished first in the men’s 8 and 16 mile races respectively.

Lisa Rooney, of Kingfisher Triathletes, also based in Kingston, finished first in the women’s 16 mile race.

Introduced this year was a relay aspect to the race, allowing teams of three runners to run eight miles in order to attempt to clock up the fastest possible 24 mile time.

Organisers Human Race are next putting on the Shock Absorber women only run in Richmond Park on Saturday morning.
