An air gun may have been used in a suspected drive by attack that shattered two car windows, victims say.

Residents in Connaught Road, New Malden, were left shocked by the incident at about 9pm, on Saturday.

Dylan White was visiting his mother in New Malden when his Volvo estate was attacked while parked in the street.

The 54-year-old from Guildford said he heard his car alarm go off and on going to see what had happened he discovered the back window had been shattered.

He said: “I assumed someone had smashed it with a hammer.

“But when you look at it you could see that the first shot had gone on the rim. The second shot had gone through.

“It looked like an air gun. Somebody is driving around shooting at windows.

“You just don’t think that would happen.”

Hazel Brown’s green mini was parked on the roadside and also had its back window shattered but she said she didn’t hear anything and was alerted to the incident police.

She said: “The road was quiet and there’s a light. You just don’t expect it.

“It seems awful, like a drive by shooting in America.

“It was a shock, really and truly.”

A Kingston police spokesman said they were called to the scene to reports of damage to a car and found two cars with shattered windows but no property was stolen.

The spokesman said: “Police are currently investigating the incidents and considering whether the damage was caused by an air weapon however no pellets were found at the scene to support this theory."

More than £300 worth of damage was caused during the incidents. Both victims had their windows repaired but warned people to park in their driveways wherever possible.
