A gas leak has sparked emergency repairs that will close a major road for days.

The Tolworth bound side of has been shut off to traffic this morning to allow work to be carried out to repair the leak on the gas main.

The road has been closed at the junction with Maple Road and Beaufort Road from outside Wagon and Horses to junction of St Marks Hill and Lamberts Road.

It is expected the works, which will be carried out by Southern Gas Networks, will take five days to complete.

Diversions will lead cars into Maple Road, left into Claremont Road, left into St Marks Hill and right into Ewell Road towards Tolworth.

The other side of Surbiton Hill Road will operate as normal.

I realise there's pressure to fill the paper, but this story is pretty thin gruel. Perhaps it was more about getting in the side-splitting headline (spark....geddit?) than a good news yarn.
