Medallist Armitstead relaxed in time trial practice in Elmbridge

Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead looked relaxed as she completed a practice run of the time trial route today.
Surrey County Council teams have been completing final checks the roads following more than two years of planning to turn north Surrey into an Olympic venue.
Yvonne Rees, Surrey’s strategic director with responsibility for the 2012 Games, said: “The riders looked relaxed and seemed to be enjoying themselves out on the route. I’m sure there’ll be a few
more nerves in the morning.
“Staging the Olympic cycling time trials and road races in Surrey has required 42 miles of roadside barrier, enough to lap the running track of the Olympic stadium 170 times, as well as 5,000
cones, 4,000 road signs, 545 road closures and 6,000 stewards, volunteers and other workers.
“We’ve been preparing for more than two years to host the events and we’re out doing our final checks of the route in preparation for the big event.”
