What a weekend! Bunting, cakes, union flags, oh and the rain! However, it didn’t dampen the Underwood spirit and we’ve had a brilliant few days celebrating the Queen’s diamond jubilee. Even Elijah knew something was going on.
There is no doubt he enjoyed his first experience of a Royal celebration, as he was glued to the telly watching the pageant and procession avidly. I think it was the bright colours and trumpets blaring that really got his attention, but if he thinks travelling down the Thames in a golden barge is the norm, he’s in for a big shock.
I know there are a few superstitions about cutting your baby’s hair before the age of one, even two years old I’ve heard, but my boy was starting to look like Albert Einstein or Krusty the clown. He was also starting to get a little cross with me combing it out at bedtime. We decided action was needed and sadly his dark brown frizzy curls are now no more. I admit it was a hard and emotional decision but Michael told me to pull myself together and we gave him his first trim. I have to say he looks rather dapper and definitely fit for a king.
The weather this week has been in stark contrast to last. There weren’t many walks or trips to the shops, so we had to keep him occupied and entertained at home. He was happy. He played on his toy piano, loved his door bouncer and generally has been much more excitable. So excitable in fact, he’s started eating his toes and clapping his hands for the first time. It was brilliant and Michael and I found ourselves clapping along with him too. We probably looked a bit silly but behind closed doors you can be as silly as you like.
Anyway, it has been an eventful week in more ways than one. Hip, hip, hooray!
