Culinary talent and Michelin-starred chefs got mouths watering at a bank holiday weekend food festival.

The Foodies Festivals held on the green at Hampton Court had a delicious array of food on offer to tickle tastebuds and satisfy appetites.

Artisan food from more than 100 exhibitors was available to buy and sample, while summer cocktails shaken by expert mixologists were on offer to thirsty visitors.

Everything from Thai and Vietnamese to strudels, kangaroo, springbok and vegetarian cheese was for sale.

But the jerk chicken, hog roast and churros attracted the biggest queues.

Acclaimed chefs such as Michelin-star restaurant owner Martin Blunos and Ed Baines cooked up a storm showing people how to cook their signatures dishes.

Bray and London restaurateur Giancarlo Caldesi, who appeared at the chef’s theatre with wife and author Katie, has just been awarded two AA rosettes for his fine dining restaurant Caldesi in Campagna.

He said: “It was wonderful to share some of our cooking and passion for food with the Hampton Foodies Festival, something we do every day at our cookery school La Cucina Caldesi.

“Family is the most important thing for us and cooking is a wonderful way to spend some time together, and it need not be expensive. At the show we showed three simple ways to use chicken with only a few ingredients that anyone can do at home with the family.”

Dragons’ Den sensation Levi Roots packed out the chef’s theatre, which had experts passing on cooking tips to visitors every hour.

For those who wanted to chill out and pass the time with a chilled gin and tonic or sparkling prosecco, the event came with its own city beach, complete with deckchairs and ice cream.

Even the sun made fleeting appearances.

New this year was Street Food Avenue, which showcased food from across the world, and the dedicated wine village.

Leesa Campbell said: “I was absolutely stuffed by the time I left. It was such a good day out and the spinach and ricotta strudel was out of this world.

“If I wasn’t so full, I’d have stayed and eaten my way around the stalls the whole day.”
