Students have started a sit in protest at Kingston University against Government plans to increase tuition fees.
The demonstration, in a first floor teaching room in the Galsworthy Building, started at 2pm. Police confirmed they had been given advance notification before the sit in got underway.
Students across the country have been taking part in the third day of action against the Government's plans, due to be debated in Parliament this evening.
Kingston University vice chancellor Sir Peter Scott has publicly spoken against increasing tuition fees to £9,000. Chris Dingle, vice president of Kingston student union, said he was not aware of the protest. He said:
“I would say it's important students do stand up and do take action on this. “The only purpose of any form of sit in is that it would raise awareness, as the university is on the record supporting our stance on tuition fees.
"I would support people's right to protest.”
