A thrill-seeking couple engaged for 20 years finally tied the knot over the Halloween weekend and celebrated in style.

Diane, 46, and Les Shields, 49, married at the Holiday Inn, Chessington, on Friday, October 29.

Determined to do something a bit different, the Epsom couple visited Chessington World of Adventures weeks before the wedding and took pictures of themselves on rides.

They used the photos on the wedding tables, and named each table after the theme park rides. Guests then joined them on the rides on Friday and Saturday – although the hangovers on Saturday made it more subdued.

Mrs Shields said: “It was such a laugh. Everyone thought it was brilliant, and we had 14 of us on the vampire ride at one point. My husband loves rides, and we have passes for the theme parks.

“I just get dragged along, but we are an active family with a lot of get up and go. We all do water skiing together.”

The couple’s three children were all there for the big day – Cameron, 15, George, six, and Alistair, 20, who was not surprised by the wedding themes.

Alistair said: “They usually do things like this. Dad is still a big kid – so is mum. We’re used to it all now.”

Mrs Shields said her husband, who she met while working in a Tadworth pub, proposed so long ago she could not remember how he did it.

She said: “Our friends were always moaning at us about getting married – it’s become a standing joke.

“Then my friends decided I had to have a hen do, even if I didn’t get married, and it all went from there.”

The couple are now planning a honeymoon break, somewhere more exotic than Alton Towers.
