A major award has shown a Raynes Park pharmacy is in excellent health.

The Mount Elgon Pharmacy in Kingston Road has been hailed as the best business in south London, scooping a £5,000 prize and a place in the national finals of a small business competition.

It was honoured in the Backing British Business contest, which is run by Barclays Bank and the Sun newspaper. Now owner Raj Patel hopes to hear whether the pharmacy has captured the competition’s top prize - and a cheque for £20,000 - in the next few days.

The competition judges praised his work in schools and the wider community, as well his efforts to make the business more environmentally friendly and go the extra mile for customers.
