A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following a death in an Ashtead residential road.

The man, aged in his 20s, died at the scene after the police and paramedics were called to Links Road at around 6pm yesterday (Friday).

Eyewitnesses reported seeing the air ambulance landing nearby and a body was taken away.

Officers cordened off Links Road and Ashtead Woods Road while forensic officers scoured the scene for clues.

A spokeswoman for Surrey Police confirmed at 11.45pm on Friday that all the cordons had been lifted apart from one surrounding a home in Links Road.

She added that the 24-year-old man from Ashtead would be interviewed today (Saturday).

A postmortem examination on the body is due to carried out this afternoon.

Anyone with information should call Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
