These are the first images of how the former Latchmere Prison will look once it is converted into 73 homes.
Developer Berkeley Homes has released artist’s impressions of the development of the former prison, which lies on the border of Kingston and Richmond, aiming to bring “Georgian and Victorian-inspired houses and apartments” to the area.
Developer Berkeley Homes was finally granted planning permission to convert the former prison by a planning inspectorate in July last year, with Richmond Council having rejected the application for its lack of affordable housing.
Kingston councillors had approved the company’s two proposed schemes, leading to a drawn out battle between Richmond and the developer.
A total of 66 new builds onsite and seven apartments within the converted and extended Latchmere House will be developed.
Richmond will have 42 homes and Kingston 31. A total of 12 affordable houses will be shared between the boroughs.
The developer’s website says the area “truly boasts an irresistible blend of sophisticated urban family living and the tranquillity of nature, all within easy reach of central London”.
