A Kingston record store is auctioning a unique Blink 182 banner for charity following the world-renowned pop punk band’s exclusive show in Kingston.

Banquet Records, which organised the unlikely gig, is auctioning a 5ft-wide ‘Blinkquet’ banner, which was hung above the Eden Street store to mark the release of the band’s latest album.

Last month, the Californian trio, who have sold more than 35 million albums worldwide, played two exclusive acoustic sets at the Rose Theatre.

Banquet owner Jon Tolley said: “I’ve been a fan of that band for 20 years so to have them playing in Kingston – it was triumphant. It was wicked, a proper party atmosphere.

“They played everything you could have wanted in the set. Those gigs bring so many people into the town, people travel from all over the world.”

The money raised will go to Refugee Action Kingston, which Banquet owner Jon Tolley said he chose due to the “racial tensions” he has seen rise in the UK since Britain voted to leave the European Union.

Bidding on eBay has so far reached £132.

Mr Tolley added: “I think post-Brexit we want to give something good to people who might be feeling a bit of racial tension. There seems to be a bit of fear amongst certain groups in society.

“There’s many a number of good charities in Kingston and that’s one of them. It’s really good to do something were you can see the effects on the doorstep.”

Blink 182 was the first in a number of big-name scoops for the store, which recently hosted an intimate gig with 80s icon Rick Astley.

Tickets to the latest gig, Scottish rock band Biffy Clyro, sold out online in eight seconds on Friday.

The bidding closes this Friday.
