Enfield’s only Conservative MP has backed outsider candidate Andrea Leadsom to be the next party leader.
Enfield Southgate MP David Burrowes said he believes Ms Leadsom is the best choice because of her commitment to Brexit, as well as having “the character to unite the country”
He said: “I believe Andrea Leadsom fulfils those conditions and has the character to lead our country through the challenges and opportunities of leaving the EU, and helping the disadvantaged in our society.
“Andrea is not as well-known as the other candidates but we know that the outsider has a habit of winning these elections, and I look forward to helping her become our next leader and PM.”
Ms Leadsom is one of five candidates to be the next leader of the Conservative party – and hence Prime Minister – after the resignation of David Cameron after Britain voted to leave the EU.
The other four candidates are Michael Gove, Theresa May, Stephen Crabb and Liam Fox.
Unlike the other four, South Northamptonshire MP Ms Leadsom has no cabinet experience.
