A body-popping Kingston policeman has sent the force viral after officers took part in the latest online dance craze.

Surrey Comet:

PC Daniel Graham won thousands of admirers on social media after featuring in Kingston police’s “running man challenge” video.

But robot-like dance is a far cry from the style the 999 response officer learnt while a pupil at Croydon’s famous BRIT School.

The clip had been viewed more than 600,000 times and shared by almost 10,000 people just 12 hours after it was posted on Facebook on yesterday evening.

PC Graham, who has been at Kingston police for three years, said: “I am just really surprised the video took off.

“It was great to combine my two loves- policing and dancing. When I was at the BRIT School I only really learnt contemporary and jazz dancing so the style in the video is self-taught.

“I tried to keep my dance skills quiet because there is a bit of a culture of taking the mick in the police but they inevitably came out at one Christmas party.”

The BRIT School is famous for producing some of the UK’s biggest stars including Adele, Rizzle Kicks and Amy Winehouse, who was in the year below PC Graham.

The 33-year-old says as he got older he decided the entertainment was not for him and he became far more interested in helping people.

He said: “When I was a kid I was quite outgoing and wanted to be the centre of attention but it was always more of a social thing for me.

“I really looked up to the police and had a great respect for what they did. As I got older I started to think my personality would suit policing.”

Despite abandoning a shot a fame and fortune the former Sutton PCSO has managed to dance his way into the hearts of the nation.

Councillor Andrea Craig tweeted: “Well done @MPSKingston not only the best #RunningManChallenge but the video has gone viral. #Kingston”

Joanne Crocker added: “PC Graham (if that is his real name badge) should enter Britain’s Got Talent with those dance moves.”

Martin Bullock asked the @MPSKingston Twitter account: “Any chance you could get PC Graham to teach me how to dance guys? He's got some serious moves.”

The video shows a hooded criminal challenge PC Graham to a “running man dance off” with the caveat that, if she wins, she will get to go free.

But she does not count on PC Graham’s spectacular moves.

The worldwide craze was started by Maryland University athletes Jaylen Brantley and Jared Nickens last month when they posted a video of themselves dancing to Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo”.

They then challenged others to do the same on Instagram.

It has since spread around the world with police forces especially taking up the chance to challenge each other to a dance off.

Kingston police have thrown down the gauntlet to Surrey Police and helicopter unit NPAS Redhill.
