Kingston will come together next Sunday, February 14, for Love Kingston day and raise vital cash for charitable causes.

Events running across the town include an all-day gig and science activities for kids.

The umbrella fund’s focus for 2016 will be ‘isolation to integration’ – helping those who are disconnected from their community back into the fold. It recently handed out £25,000 in grants to charities helping residents in crisis.

Schools, businesses, pubs, banks, choirs and others have pledged their time on Valentine’s Day.

The Fighting Cocks will host live music from 2pm, while Eden Walk will house art and science projects for children from 12pm. The Canbury Arms and the Wych Elm will offer a weekend of Valentines specials, raffles and give-aways, Love Kingston organisers said.

Fund manager Sorrel Parsons said: “Our borough is one of the best places to live in London and Surrey but there are isolated residents on the margins that need our help to connect to people and place. We are hugely thankful to everyone that has taken Love Kingston to their heart so far.”

Kingston foodbank organiser Paul Pickhaver said: “Love Kingston Day itself has really helped to not just raise funds but also raise awareness of crisis issues locally and help people find meaningful and effective ways of responding.

“The generosity we have seen from all ages has been humbling and inspiring.”

Love Kingston channels 70 per cent of donations to a legacy fund to help charities in the future. 10 per cent goes to the London Community Foundation, which manages Love Kingston, and 20 per cent is immediately distributed in grants.

Love Kingston works in partnership with Kingston Voluntary Action.
