Train disruption is expected to continue until 8pm after a man was hit and killed by a train at Raynes Park this morning.

The British Transport Police, London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service all attended the station at 9.30am this morning after receiving reports of a person being struck by a train.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Officers attended the incident along with colleagues from London Ambulance Service, and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Officers will now work to identify the man and inform his family.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

"A file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent multiple resources including a single responder in a car, an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and London's Air Ambulance to the scene.

"Sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene by the doctor from the Air Ambulance."

A spokeswoman for the London Fire Brigade confirmed it had sent two fire engines and a fire rescue unit to Raynes Park station, with approximately 15 firefighters.

Delays of up to an hour were expected between London Waterloo and Woking until 1pm, but South West Trains has now confirmed delays will continue until 8pm.

In a statement on its website, South West Trains said: “Whilst the emergency services were on site to deal with this incident, we were unable to run any trains on the affected route, causing significant delays to train services across the mainline network.

“We will be reintroducing our train services over the course of the next few hours and although trains will continue to be subject to disruption, we will do our best to ensure that all stations are served.

“This will be done as trains and crews become available, so please check whether your train will be running on our website or at your departure station.

“We are very sorry for the disruption that today’s incident has caused you.”

People with South West Train tickets will be accepted on reasonable routes on buses, Thameslink, Southern, London Underground and Great Western Railway.

Anyone travelling between Epsom and Dorking will be accepted on the 516 bus route, and those travelling between Epsom and Guildford will be accepted on the 479 bus route.
