Hundreds of residents watched on as Santa’s sleigh made its way down New Malden High Street for the much anticipated Christmas lights switch on.
Santa led the procession down the high street at 5.30pm tonight, turning on New Malden’s festive lights along the way.

He then settled in at his grotto and with the help of his elves – volunteers from the New Malden Rotary Club and deputy mayor Mary Clark - handed out toys to children.
Lucy Sunyong, of Kingston Road, brought her two year old daughter to the grotto. She said: “I’ve lived here for five years and this is the first time I’ve come.
“She’s really enjoyed it and it’s great to get a present off Santa.”

The switch on was organised by the New Malden Rotary Club and the Malden Fortnight committee.
Retailer Tudor Williams were on hand to keep parents warm with mulled wine and mince pies from their store throughout the night. They also donated toys for Santa's Grotto.

Michael Robson of the New Malden Rotary Club said: “The traders have kindly contributed towards the lights switch on and we’re very grateful.
“The crowd has been fantastic and the turnout very good.”
