Danny Boyle’s biopic of Apple impresario Steve Jobs has been announced as the closing film of the BFI London Film Festival in October.

The film - written by Oscar winner Aaron Sorkin and starring Michael Fassbender, Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels – will get its European premiere on October 17 at Odeon Leicester Square.

It is Boyle’s third film to close the festival, following Slumdog Millionaire in 2008 and 127 Hours in 2010.

The director said: “If London was the cradle of the Industrial Revolution then San Francisco is the Bethlehem of the digital one. We had a brilliant time making this movie in Silicon Valley and I hope Londoners will enjoy a behind-the-scenes look into the making of the modern world. It's always special to bring work home so thanks to BFI London Film Festival for their continued support.”

The 59th BFI London Film Festival starts on October 7 and will open with Suffragette, directed by Sarah Gavron and starring Carey Mulligan, Helena Bonham-Carter and Meryl Streep at Emmeline Pankhurst.

Dulwich’s Samuel West and Chiswick’s Anne-Marie Duff also star.
