"The fire in #Chessington is under control. 25 tonnes of rubbish was damaged by fire the same size as a humpback whale".

London Ambulance Service paramedics said they had not treated anyone at the club.

The fire damaged fencing close to the club’s youth team pitch. Training scheduled for tonight has been cancelled.

The club’s first team pitch has been left waterlogged.

Club official Andy Ellis said: "People are coming into the ground and flytipping in our car park and there’s piles of rubbish stacking up."

A large plume of dark grey smoke could be seen from as far away as Sutton.
