Two men arrested in connection with last night's stabbing at the Red Rose Indian restaurant in Hook have been further arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The men, aged 53 and 38, were arrested last night after a man in his 60s was attacked at the restaurant at about 7pm.

The victim underwent five hours of surgery today, police said, and has "extensive" and life-changing injuries to one arm.

When officers arrived at the Hook Parade restaurant they found the victim being treated by customers, who had tried to stop his bleeding with napkins, a Kingston police spokeswoman added.

Police taped off the area surrounding the Red Rose of Chessington, in Hook Parade, following the attack just after 7pm.

An employee at Mr Chips, also on the parade, said he was told there had been a 'fight' at the restaurant.

Kingston police had several officers patrolling the surrounding area and Clayton Road.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "We were called to the Red Rose in Chessington at about 7.10pm.

"Inside, officers found a man suffering from a stab wound. He was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

The restaurant and the area behind the parade of shops remained sealed off by police tape at 8am this morning (January 21).

Amy Stocking, who works at the Hook Centre, said: “I saw all the police cars outside the Red Rose as I left work and it looked like something serious had gone on.

“Police had the sniffer dogs out down Clayton Road and they seemed to be searching in the bins.

“It’s scary because it is one of my favourite restaurants and I use it all the time.”

Chessington North and Hook councillor Andrew Day said: "These incidents are rare and I'm proud to live in Chessington. [It's] a great place to live."
