A man has appeared in court over the alleged rape of a teenager in Tolworth Broadway.

Karim Tshibangu, 28 , of no fixed address, appeared wearing a black T-shirt via video link from Wandsworth prison for a preliminary hearing at Kingston Crown Court on Wednesday.

He is charged with raping a 17-year-old in Tolworth Broadway in the early hours of May 2.

Speaking to Mr Tshibangu through his Lingala language interpreter, Judge Paul Dodson said: “If you are guilty of this offence or any lesser offence part of this allegation then it is very much in your interest to plead guilty at the first opportunity because if you do so you will obtain a reduction in sentence. If however you are not guilty then you will indicate as such.”

Mr Tshibangu will enter a plea on August 7.
