Teddy bears were parachuted from the top of a church tower to help raise cash.
Super Ted was the star of the The Teddy Parachute Drop at St John’s Church in Grove Lane, Kingston after a graceful landing. Other bears were not so lucky.
Funds were being raised for the St John’s Blossom scheme which will raise money for the church’s regeneration project to replace failing heating, lighting and electric systems as well as modernise the facilities.
Vicar Vicky Maunder said: "It was such a windy day that eight of the teddies were swept onto the church roof to the anguish of their young owners.
"But our church warden, Jim Duffy, a former fireman and Dan Barrow did a sterling rescue operation from the tower with a wire coat hanger and rope and managed to drag them back."
So far the new scheme has raised £35,000 in pledges.
