The event, which has a 8.2 mile and 16.2 mile course, starts in Kingston Marketplace, crosses Kingston Bridge before sending runners past Hampton Court Palace and alongside the Surbiton riverside.

Paramedics were called to the race the junction of High Street and Eden Street just after 10.30am.

A spokeswoman from London Ambulance said: “Staff treated one patient reported to be in his 50s who was in cardiac arrest.

"He was taken as a priority to Kingston Hospital."

Hundreds of other runners completed the race successfully, including Miss Universe and I'm a Celebrity contestant Amy Willerton, who tweeted a picture of herself before the race.
