X Factor reject Ashley McKenzie is due to release the first single from his "hotly anticipated" album.

The Croydon singer's single, Deep in Love, from the upcoming album Set Me Free, is set for release on July 28.

His album is expected to be released in October, and according to his publicist listeners can expect "an original and British sound."

The 22-year-old stared in the third series of the reality TV show but was eliminated in the fourth week.

The series was eventually won by former Brit School student Leona Lewis.

Ashley said: "I saw the show as a learning opportunity and it gave me the courage and confidence to pursue my dreams further."

A statement put out by his publicist said: "The talented singer-songwriter has arrived, standing on his own two feet, armed with flawless production and raw talent."

It continues: "Accompanied by a controversial video, it makes for a combination to sit up and take notice of and shows he is clearly here to make a statement.

"Ashley McKenzie is ready to cement his name in the music industry and with his oh-so-smooth demeanour and charming yet edgy new look, plus an instantly recognisable voice; he can only hit the big time."

"Hotly anticipated" by whom? I thought that we'd all forgotten about him? Another Pop Flop.

Yeah, alongside Renee and Renato, Mr Blobby, Keith Harris and Orville.

Please stop it, Jock.

Ashley will surely soon be up there with Steve Brookstein, Michelle McMammoth and Leon (sorry, his surname has already escaped me?).

Pop su-ccesspit beckons :o)

Wow, lets give the guy a chance before you condemn him to pop hell... The single could be good, the album could be great, I guess Croydon just doesnt support its own, after all they couldnt find a girl from croydon to win the face of croydon, so why support any of the other talent.......

Mr J Jones, Carshalton says...
8:14pm Sat 12 Jul 08

"Ashley", it'll be number 36. Tops! What's that these days, about 2000 sales?
And as for being a brain-dead loser, at least I can spell?

Apart from maybe Liberty X, can you name me any other losers of these tacky shows that managed to maintain a little more success other than one record?

Tony, I agree with you. However I don't think that Alexandra from Big Brother has done Croydon any favours. However, look at the likes of Kate Moss (Ashley, she's a supermodel) and June Brown (Ashley, she's an actress in EastEnders). There are quite a few more local celebrities.

I doubt that is Ashley making a comment. Well good luck to him anyway but Ive heard the single is rubbish plus I dont know where he is going with his new 'look'. Lets just hope if he does perform live anywhere that he doesnt forget his words lke he did on x factor, lol!

Mr J Jones, Carshalton says...
8:43pm Sat 12 Jul 08

Yes, I actually also wish the guy luck and I hope that he's successful. I just very much doubt that he will be?

People get themselves a manager who make them believe their own hype (Terence Trent Darby springs to mind).

The look of Chaka Khan with facial stubble "dragged through a hedge backwards" doesn't really do much for Ashley, either. Far too much makeup and a bad photographer?

Anyway, good luck and I'll leave off now :o)

i dont think that ashley will b as successfull as some of the other x factor contestants, such as leona lewis - shes amazing, howeverr im a big fan of the show nd i wish him all the best - everyone is entitled to there own opinion. :) gd luck mate xx

Has anyone heard the single.... I was in Croydon when he performed it at the Face of Croydon, I thought it was pretty good.
I think that Mr Jones is a bit rash with the number 36 statement, I am sure that his management have probably done the market research to place him in the top 10 and if thats the case good luck to him..........
I think its a bold step for an X factor 'reject' to release a single - afterall the rest of them just tour singing the songs from X factor series usually badly.... well done Ashley

im supporting the young man.

So decent of the newspaper to print an article asking people to comment on whether they would buy the single or album, goes to show that the journalist involved already had a negative view of Ashey, after all he started with X factor reject.....
Think you missed the point Dan, Ashley was a finalist and that itself was an achievement. Its great to see that the people that get so far in the competition still manage to stay in the industry after the show has ended. Good luck with the single and album.

I seem to remember all of those people doing well, and you of course remember them. Amazing how all these people remember him from X factor, obviously you all watched. Stop hating him for what he is, stop hating cause he has chosen a different path for his life than most others, applaud him for trying to make his life different from the normal. Croydon boy makes good I think, Its amazing in a previous comment someone noted two people from croydon that had reached big time, just two........ out of all of Croydon just two, he should be more ashamed to say that statement than proud because croydon should be behind everyone that tries to be something special. At least Ashley supports croydon, where the hell are Kate n June since they got limelight.

Do you know what??? this man has got so much talent is reddick . . . you have to appreciate music to appreciate his style and uniqueness for-real.

Can I just ask??? what is wrong with someone trying to do something good with their life??? All you get in negativity, come on people is that the way we, sorry you, should be going on. Have the people that have been writing negative comments actually listened to his songs . . . go on his myspace or go on youtube and listen to the unplugged versions, because this boy has got talent and who are you to try and take it away from him . . . BEHAVE.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions but for real if you cant justify what your saying then take your opinions and stick them.

ANYHU back to Ashley . . . this artist (and yes he is an artist) will go places in life, he has worked hard to get where he is now and deserves all the best in his music career. Alot of people will be buying his music, because they appreciate the raw talent that he possesses. Keep going. Keep you head up and do things for you.

Stay Blessed Nikki

Jock, working with Billy Piper is hardly a qualification in the record industry, lets face it she sucked on the most successful ginger nut in the world that owned a radio station and still didnt get airplay....... looks like youve already cemented your life - The worst thing about it is I dont work in the industry anymore but you do and you should know by now that slagging of people in the industry just alienates you from the rest of the world........ Everyone look out for Jock in Midem, make sure this one doesnt get distribution....

Wow, is this what managing an artist is about.
Thanks for letting me know.
The picture used in this article was from a fashion photoshoot, by a world renowned photographer...
So far i've noted that people have slagged of Ashley, the management team, the photographer and the make-up artist for the photoshoot, i'll have a think to see if there was anyone else involved in the journey to this point and put their details up because I wouldn't want anyone to be missed out.

But on a serious note, all comments good, bad or indifferent are truly appreciated and we hope that everyone gets a chance to listen and hopefully enjoy the album.....

Well, I have to repond to that, seeing as I'm fat, ugly and sitting indoors on the internet all day, apparently?

T, I assume that you're Ashley's manager? I am just being realistic, not quite as critical or mentally disturbed as some people have suggested? Read my comments again.

You have taken a very handsome young man with an excellent voice and turned him into a drag queen? Where are you going with that?

I haven't commented on the song yet because I've only seen/heard an acoustic version on YouTube which I think isn't too good. However, the final version will no doubt polished up and excellent. I'm looking forward to hearing it.

I genuinely do wish Ashley all the best. Maybe if he does make it big, in years to come some of my constructive feedback may be quoted in his book?

I guess I must be the same after all I’m on the internet all day too !....
Your correct in noting that I am Ashley’s manager and I am not making any judgements about the people that have made comments, as I stated before all comments are appreciated.
I haven't actually taken Ashley and turned him into anything, Ashley is the same person that I met, managing an artist is not about changing the person the world see’s but about doing the negotiations required to help that person with the choices they make for themselves. I think the picture published was not the greatest from the photoshoot as the shadowing is quite deceptive however, I can assure everyone Ashley is definately not in drag. The complete set of images from the photo session will be available to view shortly and should correct that view. I understand from the publicist that the full range of images were made available to the writer of this article and he chose the one published but then again the writer also chose to label Ashley as an X factor reject as opposed to finalist, which you will agree is a very demeaning way to start an article.
There is always going to be mixed views on any music produced by any artist and I am glad that you have chosen to await the final release to pass judgement, I am sorry that you feel that the acoustic version ‘isn’t too good’ as Ashley will be releasing both ‘polished’ and unplugged versions of several of his upcoming tracks.
Ashley is already working on a book of stark and interesting images and knowing Ashley I have no doubt that there will be several references to the comments he has received on his journey since X factor.
Which brings me to the references to X factor, The show is supposed to be a showcase for UK talent, however, it seems that the people that do enter are unaware that irrespective of the level you reach within the show, the UK music industry does not favour the artists.
Ashley knows I also wish him the very best, he is a very talented singer / songwriter and I hope that his public see beyond X Factor to give him the same chance that everyone should have in the industry.

Am I on crack? No. You can tell because I am able to speak, spell and type properly.

My point is completely valid. I haven't "slagged" off his music because I haven't heard it. I was offended by his rudeness, why should he be allowed to talk to people like that? The BOY needs a reality check. He is going to face a lot worse criticism than this in the music world. He should be trying to win the public over not insult them.

Yes I do expect him to sit back at take negativity. He's in the public eye, what does he expect?

The way he "speaks" when commenting on here reminds me of the street language I hear from little THUGS on the street.

Not only are you making him look worse you're making yourself look stupid so well done you.

Why don't people listen? Read my comment again. I haven't had a go at your music have I? No.

I just think swearing at people is appropriate! I actually cannot believe I'm the only person who does! You can answer negative comments in an adult way!

Ashley, you're an attractive young man. Younger girls are going to like your music, what kind of an example are you setting?

You can call me a "hater", you can call me names, it wont change the fact that you're damaging you possible career.
