Oh yes it is, panto season is on us again. This year, there’s lots to enjoy this Christmas with TV stars, sparkly costumes and cheesy jokes abound at theatres around south London, north Kent and north Surrey. Here’s our guide to what’s on and where.

Beauty and the Beast at The Tramshed, Woolwich, from November 30 to December 20

The Tramshed will be transformed into an enchanted castle for a family musical directed by Kate O’Connor and written by award-winning children’s playwright Brendan Murray. Fresh from a stint on Celebrity Masterchef, former EastEnders and The Bill star Scott Maslen turns on the nasty as Abanazar. Red Riding Hood at Greenwich Theatre from November 20 to January 10

Consistently one of the best pantos in London, Greenwich passes on the celebs to focus on putting on a top family show. The theatre’s go-to panto guy Andrew Pollard celebrates 10 years of doing pantos in south east London with one of the lesser told stories, Expect stunning special effects, belting songs and dances and a razor sharp script. Santa Claus and the Night Before Christmas at Fairfield Halls in Croydon from December 5 to 24

Following last year’s record-breaking run of Santa Claus and the Magical Christmas Journey last year, the big man returns to Croydon for a family-friendly interactive show that is the perfect introduction to theatre which includes bubbles and snowflakes. All of the good boys and girls in the audience get to meet Santa and receive a present after the show. Tickets cost from £14 adults and £11.50 children. There’s plenty of star power in Wimbledon’s panto this Christmas. Comedian Marcus Brigstocke, who recently played King Arthur in Spamalot, plays Captain Hook while Britain’s Got Talent street dancers Flawless and Kiwi comedian Jarred Christmas also lend their talents. Stars In Their Eyes presenter-turned-serious-actor Matthew Kelly is one of the ugly sisters in Richmond this year – and his son Matthew Rixon plays the other one. It’s a double act that goes back a long way, Kelly first brought his son on stage in panto aged just 18 months. Acting royalty Hayley Mills also stars as does CBeebies’ Chris Jarvis.
