After a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe, WWI tragic-comedy the Hardybutts Boys, adapted from true stories from the Great War, is coming to the Hampton Hill Playhouse this Saturday.

The production, devised by Bournemouth Arts University graduates based on the memoirs of the great-grandfather of a cast member, will be raising money for charity Help the Heroes.

The script centres around four young men from the northern town of Hardybutts, who embark on a remarkable journey to the frontline of the Great War.

Calum Hughes-McIntosh, who plays ring-leader Les, says: "The story is a great juxtaposition between the comedy shared by the friends and the tragedy of war.

"It’s a situation so many young men found themselves in, going off to war and finding themselves in circumstances like they never expected."

The play raised £1,000 for Help for Heroes at the Fringe, and the Little Giant Theatre Company hoped to contribute more to the cause with this one-off performance.

Calum said: "One of our cast members has a brother in the Royal Marines, and it’s such an important cause that really resonates with all of us."
