Fore! There’s a new player on the green as Electronic Arts tees up the latest instalment of its long-running PGA Tour golf series.

After replacing Tiger Woods as the world’s number one golfer, Rory McIlroy has also taken the American’s place as the face of EA Sports’ video game.

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will be released in June for Xbox One and PS4, claiming to provide ‘Golf Without Limits’.

Putting his name to the title, McIlroy said: “This is a great honour, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport.

“I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”

The game will be the first EA Sports title built using the Frostbite engine, allowing the creation of “beautiful new environments, featuring the most detailed courses in franchise history.”

Brent Nielsen, executive producer of the game, said: “Frostbite has allowed us to take this franchise to a whole new level.

“The new engine drastically improves all facets of the game, from core gameplay to opportunities for brand-new modes and features. We’re looking forward to sharing a lot of great news with our fans throughout the rest of the spring.”

Inside the game, players will find “gorgeous real-world courses and epic fantasy tracks”, while another new feature EA is talking up is the zero wait times when moving from one hole to the next.

Here are a few screens to salivate over ahead of us being able to putt the game through its paces in a couple of months.
