Fascinating and many usually-private buildings across London will be open to the public for one weekend only next month.

Open House London returns on September 19 and 20, offering a glimpse of London’s great architecture and design with a programme of openings, walks, tours, talks and cycle rides – all for free.

Among the open houses will by BT Tower, 30 St Mary Axe (the Gherkin), City Point and an Archibus tour with Arriva buses.

Friday, September 18, sees a nighttime culture crawl through the capital to raise money for cancer charity Maggie’s. Go to maggiescentre.org/culturecrawl.

In south London, the open houses include Wimbledon’s staggering Buddhapadipa Temple, Bushy House in Teddington, Garrick’s Temple to Shakespeare in Hampton, Carshalton Water Tower and Historic Gardens, Charlton House and the Old Royal Naval College.
