The Greyhound in Carshalton has reopened following an extensive refurbishment.

The bar and dining areas have been given a makeover to transform it into ‘an idyllic retreat for urban dwellers and wandering travellers, where muddy boots and muddy paws are both welcome’.

The pub in the High Street dates from the 1730s when it was a coaching inn and has 21 hotel rooms.

Now a Young’s pub, it was the where Lord Epsom drafted the rules for the famous Derby and in the corner is Anne Boleyn’s Well, the spring of which is said to have burst from the ground when Anne Boleyn’s horse kicked it.

The Greyhound’s bar and dining rooms now boast leather booth seating, tweed armchairs and light fittings made from vintage glass decanters.

Original wood panels now have a pastel paint job while the walls are decorated with mismatched floral watercolours and black and white maps and the main entrance retains its 200-year-old greyhound mosaic.
