No festival is quite like OnBlackheath. As the two-day extravaganza returns to south east London on September 10 and 11, we looked at ten things you won’t want to miss this year…

Primal Scream

Headlining on the Sunday, the indie rock legends will bring the hits going back more than 25 years from the seminal Screamadelica to their latest positively-reviewed 2016 record Chaosmosis.

The Chef’s Banquet

Theo Randall, who was awarded a Michelin star while at The River Café, hosts the Chef’s Banquet – the chance to tuck in to a unique fine dining three course meal. It’s certainly something quite unique for a festival.

Belle and Sebastian

They don’t make a big hullabaloo about it but the Scottish indie poppers could hardly be held in higher regard. It’s a great chance to catch them live on the main stage on Sunday.

Squeeze

More than 40 years ago, Squeeze were cutting their teeth just down the road at pubs around Greenwich and Lewisham before hitting the big time. What better place to see them now than back in the borough that made them. They play the main stage on Sunday.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir

What a success story. Since appearing on Gareth Malone’s TV programme Sing While You Work, the local group has gone huge – even beating Justin Bieber to Christmas number one. They are sure to get a rousing reception on home turf on Sunday.

Live Cooking Demonstrations

Top chefs including the Hemsley sisters, Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite and Masterchef champion Ping Coombes will cook up a storm and answer audience questions.

Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club

From the cobbles of Corrie to deep space in Red Dwarf, Craig Charles certainly gets around. And when he’s not on the telly or radio, he’s a well-respected funk and soul DJ. Let him lead the boogie on the iD Mobile stage on Sunday.

Thundercat

The US bassist, producer and singer has just finished working on Kendrick Lamar’s huge latest album, for which he won a Grammy Award for best rap/sung collaboration, and now he’s heading to OnBlackheath to rock the NTS stage on Saturday.

Street Food

Living up to its ‘food and music festival’ billing, OnBlackheath is the perfect place to pick up something to eat. Street food includes Burrito Boys, Smoke Stack, Paellaria and The Cheeky Indian.

The Magic Storytelling Stage

Puffin Books hosts a literary themed stage especially for the little ones. There’s everyone from The Clangers and The Dinosaur that Pooped to The Magical World of Peter Rabbit and her Tale of Peter Rabbit. Comedian David O’Doherty will make an appearance with illustrator Chris Judge for a lesson in Dangerology.
