Open air cinema at Hampton Court Palace
Film lovers will have a chance to experience their own movie scene moment while watching classics like Singin’ in the Rain and West Side Story, when Hampton Court Palace plays host to an open-air film season.
Pop up cinema specialists the Luna Cinema will set up a big screen in the grounds of the iconic Royal Palace to host four film screenings throughout the summer.
George Wood, managing director of the Luna Cinema, said: “When we first started doing the open air cinema the key thing for us was finding these incredible settings where people would love to see films, but where you would not normally find a cinema.
“Watching a film under the stars in this regal setting is what really inspired me when we first started and the opportunity came up with the royal palaces. Hampton Court Palace really is the most magical setting you could imagine.”
The film season kicks off in August with a showing of Gene Kelly classic Singin’ in the Rain and will have audiences wanting to get up and dance along with the stars on the screen.
This will be followed by a screening of the Madness of King George, a fitting choice as the King spent much of his time at nearby Kew Palace during his illness.
Then in September the open air cinema will play host to a Shakespeare themed double bill.
Shakespeare in Love, the romantic tale of forbidden love, earned Gwyneth Paltrow and Judi Dench Oscars.
Finally the season of films will come to an end with another musical, this time in the form of West Side Story.
