The new president of London's Chamber of Commerce outlined his plans for increasing membership when he met Croydon's business community.

Michael Cassidy, 58, a consultant for City law firm DLA Piper and a former chairman of the policy and resources committee at the Corporation of London, said he wanted the Croydon chamber to grow in size and to offer the support and services businesses wanted.

He set out his vision for the future during a visit to Selsdon Park Hotel last Friday.

A new management team is in place at Croydon Chamber of Commerce following the departure of chief executive Angelina Purcell to the rival group Croydon Business.

Mr Cassidy said: "We are going to operate in partnership with them the Croydon chamber and not compete. We do different things. We are looking to keep it going as it was before." However, he said if membership did not increase in Croydon the situation would be reviewed.

He said he also intends to expand services to chamber members and use its London-wide representation as a platform for campaigning on business issues.
