Sutton & Epsom head coach Jeff Parsons believes the club is in a good place after a tough start to the season.

Parsons found his side in the bottom half of London Division One South after losing their first three games, but they have turned things around.

They are now fifth in the table after recording their fourth straight win, this time over Charlton Park 17-5 on Saturday at Rugby Lane.

And Parsons believes there is a simple reason behind the up-turn in fortunes.

He said: “We worked really hard during the week and focused on the game plan and thankfully it worked out on Saturday.

“We are enjoying a good run of form at the moment and I believe we deserved to win.”

He added: “Getting plenty of numbers to training has also improved our preparation for the game and offers plenty of competition for players.”

Against Charlton, Chris Pointing and Andy Matthews got the tries, while Steve Munford kicked the extra points.

But now Sutton and Parsons turn their attention to this weekend’s fixture as they travel south to take on a struggling Hove side.

Hove have only recorded one victory so far this season – coming in the opening game against Gosport & Fareham – and sit 13th in the table.

But Parsons is making sure that the players do not get carried away with their run of victories, demanding the same performance from his players.

He said: “We will travel to Hove with the same mentality as last week with the main focus being on winning the game.

“But we will be expecting a tough and tight contest so we will have to work hard to get the win.”
